What is your role in the team?

I am the Operations Director for Adept. I have accountability for the successful delivery of customer support, projects and product development.

How long have you been working with Adept and what initially attracted you to join the team?

I started working at Adept in 2015. I was then, and still remain, excited at the prospect of being part of a small, Scottish company, being able to build a successful international business.

What do you enjoy most about working with your colleagues at Adept and what makes the team dynamic special?

The positive attitude of the team when it comes to getting things done and solving problems that we are faced with.

Who has influenced you the most when it comes to how you approach your work?

A few years ago I attended the training course for the Scrum Master certification. The content that the course tutor delivered was inspirational to me and convinced me of the advantages of the agile approach to delivering software products. I’ve been an evangelist for agile ever since.

Can you share a project or accomplishment that you’re particularly proud of?

Delivering to INEOS an invoicing system for the Forties Pipeline System. It was a special feeling to share the delight of the user community to have the existing invoicing process, which was very resource intensive and error-prone, replaced by a system that allowed then to complete the monthly invoicing process accurately, and in a fraction of the time that it would have taken them previously.

What is your go-to productivity trick?

Use of category labels in Microsoft Outlook to manage e-mail correspondence. Allows me to archive mail in a single folder and apply multiple categorisation to a single message. I find this approach makes it much quicker to search and locate messages in my mailbox.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that help you unwind and recharge?

Mountain biking, playing tennis, and walking and playing with my energetic cocker spaniel.
